Michel Déon on The Great and the Good

The Great and the Good is a novel about a young Frenchman growing up to understand that life is bigger than he thought and that love is not always fair.

In this 11 minute clip, Michel Déon talks to translator Julian Evans about his experience as a young man in the 1950’s New York scene as a recipient of the prestigious Rockefeller Foundation grant. During his time in America he met the literary giant William Faulkner, with this and other experiences having a profound impact in The Great and the Good but also in his life and writing.

At 97, Michel Déon has incredible memories to share. This clip is only a brief example of an extraordinary life lived by an extraordinary man.
